How many maps to fly round Australia? Good question!!
For FHU to fly her route we need 16 charts, each chart is scale of 1:1,000,000. 2 cms on the chart = 20 kilometres (approx 12 statute miles or 11 nautical miles) on the ground. Every leg of the flight needs at least 2 maps, some three. To give some idea of scale, two of these maps would cover most of the UK!!
Plus of course the Terminal Charts, one needed for each of Perth (Jandakot), Aloce Springs, Cairns, Townsville and the Whitsundays (Hamilton Island).
One good thing about maps is their battery never goes flat!!!
